Mick Curley

mickcurleyphotography.com

Mick Curley is an Australian surf photographer who now lives in Bali Indonesia with his fiancé Dian. Some may say traitor, but if you knew Curley you'd soon realise Bali is where he truly belongs. Mick has been living on the island for roughly five years and his appreciation for local culture, people and waves is obvious. Starting out as a surf photographer wasn't exactly an easy process for Curley. For years he was frustrated by magazine editors who weren't sold on his style of capturing and editing a photograph. However, instead of trying to shoot to different editors particular tastes, Curley stuck to his guns and continued to further develop his personal style. Now, after a few years editors have started to pay particular attention to Curley's ability to take a great photograph, and high calibre international magazines love his content inked on their pages. In June 2010, I spent a month with Curley and I was super impressed by his attitude towards his profession. Mick is a true professional and he is also a really great guy. What I like about Mick's personality is that nothing is ever too hard and he has a great ability to listen to your ideas and make them a reality. Curley is definitely a name to look out for in the photographic world. Curley's work will surely be a regular sight amongst the pages of Soggybones. If you're ever in Bali make sure you pay a visit to Shoot Bali Images, Curley's new Gallery in Seminyak.
